We are in a civil war. Thankfully, it is mostly a cold war without physical violence, although there are some glaring exceptions such as 1-6-21. Nevertheless, it is a war, and the stakes are very high. The conservative assault on the franchise in red states needs to be met with greater force by mobilization of every Democratic or potentially Democratic voter. Every voter should be educated so as to understand precisely what the Republcans are attempting to accomplish with voter suppression. Republicans should not get away with taking credit for progressive government initiatives that were crafted by Democrats. Swing voters --- those who (incredibly!) voted for Obama in one election and Trump in another --- need to be courted assiduously by the Democratic Party. This is a war that progressives can and must win, but the Trumpist forces must never be underestimated. In 2020, about 74,000,000 people (!) voted for four more years of an incompetent and corrupt gangster, and he may well return for another go at the White House in 2024. We are in a war for the soul of this country.
