This is it! NameGame finally debuts on Medium! Here at NameGame Gazette we’re excited to bring you all the action, so let’s jump right into our first season of NameGame.

For our first season, we’re going to consider the names of the first ten presidents of the United States. Every name will play every other name, and after ten weeks of play we’ll have a winner. Our players, in the order in which they served as president, are:

George Washington
John Adams
Thomas Jefferson
James Madison
James Monroe
John Quincy Adams
Andrew Jackson
Martin Van Buren
William Henry Harrison
John Tyler

Before we begin the season, let’s take a look at the pre-season standings to get some idea of what we might expect:

With a ranking of 14.111, John Tyler is the early favorite to dominate this season’s play. Will he be able to hold the #1 position as the season progresses? Let’s jump right in to the action and see what happens.

Here are the results of the first week of play:

A player wins by winning four rounds, which is the first number listed after each name. After that come the scores for the individual rounds, and the number at the very end is the number of rounds played in that match.

The longest match in Week 1 was between James Monroe and John Quincy Adams. It was an eight-rounder, and James Monroe came out on top. In the shortest game, Martin Van Buren thoroughly dominated Andrew Jackson.

Here are the standings after the first week of play:

This is pretty much what we might expect based on the pre-season standings. John Tyler is at #5…
