This article focuses on personalities, but another interesting fact about the Court itself is that it is not limited to nine justices. Before 1869 the number of justices was changed several times, usually for partisan political reasons, which just goes to show that political manipulation of the court is nothing new. Something should be done about that, but I am not sure what that something is.
