The two world wars of the twentieth century began in Europe, and not in isolated places such as Afghanistan. That does NOT mean that Afghan lives are any less precious than Ukrainian lives, nor does it justify the taking of those Afghan lives. What is does mean in a geopolitical sense is that events in Europe can throw the world into chaos much more quickly than events in more isolated areas.
