One idea that has gained some traction even amongst serious mainstream scientists is the idea that we are living in a simulation run by something or someone somehow from someplace. Which brings to mind the question: Are we just the result of some alien teenager totally beyond our comprehension doing an experiment in his bedroom? And if we are indeed in a simulation, could some of the phenomena we cannot explain be the result of the simulator's interaction with the simulation? UFOs, paranormal occurences, and other such phenomena can often be explained by natural processes, but not always. Are the UFOs which defy physical law as we understand it the result of someone messing with the simulation? Do near-death experiences take us back briefly to an unimaginably complex algorithm from which we sprang? Neil deGrasse Tyson has said that what keeps him awake at night is the idea that someone out there may be so intelligent as to understand concepts about the universe that we cannot even formulate. That ties in with your point about the ant: there may well be aspects to reality which we can comprehend only vaguely or perhaps not at all.
